I was one of those kids who wanted to be an astronaut when I grew up.

Yep. A wild dream for a little, young lass in the then remote village that I was born in.

This dream of mine was partly inspired by the fact that I thought pilots and astronauts were one and the same thing. I mean my 5 year old self understood that pilots and astronauts both flew bird-looking structures in the sky, so yeah, one and the same thing.

And because I don’t want to sound too callow, I will say that I also believed that they, (astronauts and pilots) were very selfless. I mean, leaving your family to fly people around to various destinations! I did not see that level of selflessness with my accountant father. Lol. Sorry Dad!

This little, young lass grew up and did NOT become an astronaut, not even close. She instead found herself building the blocks of her career around people, specifically in Talent Acquisition and you know what, it wasn’t her 5 year old dream but she loved it!

But you know how innately in every human being, there is normally this longing to be part of something bigger than yourself? Yes.

I longed for that! The selflessness I had perceived in the work of pilots & astronauts, I wanted that. I longed to continue building the blocks of my career in an organization that was mission driven, selfless and going beyond themselves and I found that in The African Leadership Group.

Me ;)

And you know what my full circle moment was? When it finally dawned on me that as an organization, we rightfully call our bold mission a — moonshot mission — appropriated from J.F Kennedy’s speech on September 12th in 1962 , on choosing to go the moon not because it was going to be easy but precisely because it was going to be hard, hence #DoHardThings!

I mean come on! And there was a whole illustration of a rocket! Excitement!!

Now as a Talent Acquisition Specialist, I may not be the one flying the rocket to our moonshot goals but best believe my finger prints are all over that rocket and my inner five year old is more than appeased.

I get to be part of the cool team that recruits the amazing talent that is building and will eventually fly the rocket and even though it’s sometimes downright hard, I dare not give up because #DoHardThings is literally our DNA!

This is my contribution to our moonshot goals and I am even more excited that I get to do it all in an organization that allows me to be part of something that is bigger than just me; the transformation of Africa! My inner child sometimes can hardly keep calm, these are my finger prints on the rocket.

You can leave your finger prints on the rocket too, apply here
